The City of Irving is proud to introduce the Think Green… Be Green Web site, designed to provide an opportunity to discover, learn, and implement suggestions to become stewards of the environment. Irving is committed to becoming a successful, environmentally sustainable community, and addresses this initiative in the city's Strategic Plan. To meet this goal, we are focusing on key environmental issues such as recycling, energy and water conservation and alternative transportation. Finally, you will have the opportunity to implement by attending classes and workshops offered in Irving related to these topics and presented by specialists helping to assist you in your efforts to be a better steward of the planet. | | | | |

| Earth Day ... Naturally Celebrate Earth Day at Irving’s annual Earth Day event. This year’s Earth Day Naturally will have music by Brave Combo, healthy food, games, kite flying, learn about the latest “green” technologies from eco-vendors, hands-on eco-activities for the kids, visit the Market Place and enjoy nature walks. | Bicycle Transportation Survey The City of Irving is developing a bicycle transportation plan as part of its goal to become a successful, environmentally sustainable city. | Irving Public Library Kicks Off Sustainability Series in March The Irving Public Library presents a monthlong initiative called Learn 2B Green that will focus on topics such as water conservation, energy conservation, efficient living and recycling. The series will include guest speakers, movie screenings, recycled art activities, animal demonstrations and a consumer fair. Read more | 
| Curbside Recycling Residents receiving solid waste services can participate by recycling paper, cardboard, cans, glass bottles and jars, and plastic containers. Irving utilizes the blue recycling bag as the designated collection container for recycling. Recycle only on designated recycling days. Single-family homeowners may purchase the bags at Irving City Hall or at any Irving recreation center. Once the oil is cool, carefully pour or scrape the oil into a container no larger than 5 gallons and apply a tight-fitting, screw-top lid. Call (972) 721-2232 for pick up.
